THE ORGANISATION

Engineers Ireland is the professional body for engineers and engineering in Ireland. With over 25,000 members across the island of Ireland and overseas, Engineers Ireland focuses on the promotion and development of all disciplines of engineering, working collaboratively with industry, educational institutions, state bodies and the public service. As one of the country’s largest and longest established professional bodies, Engineers Ireland liaises closely with the engineering community to act as the voice of the profession and to promote excellence through a programme of on-going accredited professional development and certifications that are aligned with International Accords.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director General, the Registrar will be responsible and accountable for formulating and maintaining the academic and competence standards for the membership of Engineers Ireland. The Registrar will be a key member of the Senior Management Team and will lead a dedicated team to implement activities that will maintain Engineers Ireland’s reputation at the forefront of professional engineering. He/she will collaborate with volunteer members, industry, academic and international partners to progress competence standards across all engineering disciplines.


THE PERSON

The appointed person will be an experienced leader with a proven track record of achievement in a relevant technical environment which demonstrates the knowledge, leadership and management skills necessary to fulfil the duties of the Registrar. The successful candidate will possess a significant understanding of the engineering educational programmes that are delivered in Ireland. With strong communication skills and networking abilities, the appointee will have the capacity to represent Engineers Ireland and its members, nationally and internationally, regarding accreditation. The ability to work effectively at all levels, with both internal and external stakeholders and groups is required. A Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional engineering qualification is essential.
