THE ORGANISATION
The Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCI) is the national agency for designers and makers in Ireland. Based in Kilkenny, DCCI currently have 66 member organisations and over 3,600 registered clients, it promotes the commercial development of the design and craft sectors in Ireland. To further support the growth and development of the design and craft sector, DCCI has recently launched its new Design and Crafts Council Ireland Academy (DCCIA) in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. In anticipation of the imminent opening of the DCCIA, we are seeking an ambitious, driven and organised individual with deep industry and market knowledge to lead the Craft & Education Department and promote and grow the craft offering in Ireland.
THE ROLE
Based in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, the Head of Craft & Education (HCE) will manage the Craft & Education department of DCCI on a day-to-day basis. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the HCE will develop an annual operating plan that supports DCCI’s short, medium and long-term craft-oriented goals with the support and collaboration of the CEO. The HCE will foster links with the crafts and design sector nationally and internationally to build relationships and identify best practice and will work closely with the Head of Commercial to promote Irish craft domestically and internationally.
THE PERSON
You will have a demonstrable track record of commercial success ideally coupled with academic leadership and an understanding/appreciation of the Irish craft and design sector, including economic and business affairs, as well as political, social, and cultural matters. You will be able to demonstrate a track record of people/stakeholder management skills in addition to excellent communication skills. You possess appropriate academic and/or professional qualifications related to the principal role accountabilities.
