THE ORGANISATION
Teagasc is the national public authority for the provision of integrated research, advisory, education and training services to the Irish agri-food sector. Employing over 1,300 people and with a budget of €200m, Teagasc delivers advisory services to 45,000 farmer clients and food producers through its nationwide network. Aligning with global demands for more sustainable food systems, the European Green Deal roadmap and Farm to Fork strategy, and the national targets within the Food Vision 2030 Strategy and the National Climate Action Plan, Teagasc is developing pioneering new technologies to drive change in the way Ireland produces, processes, consumes and exports its foods. By facilitating the exchange of information across the agri-food sector in terms of challenges, practices and solutions, Teagasc’s advisory programmes enable the uptake of research proven technologies by farmers and food producers to support their long-term viability and sustainability.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director of Knowledge Transfer, the Head of Advisory Services will be responsible for developing Teagasc’s advisory strategy and policies and for ensuring their implementation through effective delivery programmes and business plans. Working with key functions across the Teagasc organisation, the appointed person will drive the development of innovative advisory models to address the evolving needs of Ireland’s farmers and food producers. The successful candidate will lead and develop the Advisory Services Team to ensure that it actively contributes to the achievement of Teagasc’s goals and strategic objectives regarding Knowledge Transfer.
THE PERSON
Educated to postgraduate level, or equivalent, in Agricultural Science or a related area, the appointed person will have a proven track record of leading large teams through significant change in a relevant educational or advisory environment. The successful candidate will possess a thorough understanding of developments within the agri-food sector and the associated requirements in relation to advisory programmes. The appointee will also demonstrate an ability to manage and lead the advisory activities of Teagasc to have impact in addressing the diverse requirements of its client base.
