THE ORGANISATION

Maynooth University, a vibrant place of research and learning for more than 15,000 students and nearly 1,300 staff, is one of the fastest growing universities on the island of Ireland, with ambitious plans for its future. Located in Ireland’s only university town, on a beautiful campus with 18th century roots, the University is a place of lively contrasts—a modern institution, dynamic, research-led and engaged, yet grounded in historic academic strengths and scholarly traditions.

THE ROLE

The University is creating a new senior role within an expanding Office of External Relations at a time of exciting growth and change at MU. They are seeking an experienced, creative and dynamic Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing to lead the development and delivery of effective and integrated communications and marketing strategies in support of the University’s Strategic Plan 2023-2028. The Director will lead the communications, marketing, and digital teams and play a key role in building out an evolving university-wide approach to service delivery in line with the University’s scaling needs and goals. The Director will lead an ambitious agenda to define and enhance the University’s reputation and brand with external stakeholders nationally and internationally. By bringing new ideas and a keen understanding of current trends in higher education marketing and communications, the Director will lead a content strategy and implementation plan for the University across its myriad platforms, PR and outreach activities, campaigns, digital channels, publications, collateral, partnerships and events.

THE PERSON

The Director will have an ability to unearth compelling content and lead high-performing teams to develop innovative ways to share those stories with the world. As a key spokesperson for MU, the Director will possess a balance of skills across internal and external communications, marketing and digital functions, as well as the ability to drive new initiatives forward and galvanise colleagues and partners. The Director also will be responsible for evaluating and tracking the effectiveness of the unit’s activities and play a key role in capturing university-wide efforts that tell the story of the University’s impact. The Director will demonstrate a keen understanding of higher education and its range of stakeholder interests, opportunities and challenges within the Irish higher education landscape.
