THE ORGANISATION

The Teaching Council was established on a statutory basis in March 2006. It is the professional standards body for the teaching profession, which promotes and regulates professional standards in teaching. It acts in the interests of the public good while upholding and enhancing standards in the teaching profession. The Teaching Council is seeking to appoint a Director who will have overall responsibility for the management and administration of the Council in carrying out its functions under the Teaching Council Acts 2001 – 2015.


THE ROLE

The Director will work closely with members of Council and will ensure that it delivers effectively in all areas of its mandate including governance, statutory, regulatory, procedural and legal matters. Reporting to Council, the Director will work to further improve all aspects of its work and will build upon a clear vision for the Teaching Council to ensure that strong and effective working relationships are maintained with all its stakeholders. As the public face of the organisation, the Director will be responsible for promoting and increasing awareness of the Teaching Council and its work.


THE PERSON

The appointed person will:

• Be an extremely competent contributor with an affinity for continuous improvement, along with high energy levels and personal standards in terms of quality, excellence and the desire to achieve lasting results for the Teaching Council.

• Be an experienced leader with strong organisational skills and experience of dealing with professional networks or membership associations. 

• Possess significant experience in developing, driving and delivering strategic plans coupled with a strong focus on innovation and research.

• Hold a third-level qualification to post-graduate degree level in a relevant discipline(s) and a leadership/management qualification may be an advantage.
