THE ORGANISATION

The Irish Cancer Society is working to build a future where no-one dies from cancer and everyone affected by the disease has access to world-class treatment, care and support. As Ireland’s leading cancer charity, the Society works across every area of cancer – from prevention and early detection, through to end-of-life care. The Society makes an impact for patients affected by cancer every day: investing in life-saving and life-changing research; providing practical, financial and emotional supports; and advocating for improvements in public services and supports. The Society partners with cancer institutes, healthcare providers and organisations across Ireland and internationally, to make a real and sustainable impact.

THE ROLE

In response to significant growth in its services, new investments, and increasing operational complexity, the Irish Cancer Society is recruiting for the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer (COO). Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the COO will be a strategic leader within the Society and will be part of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). The COO will have direct responsibility for the Services, Research and Clinical Affairs teams and will ensure the effective and efficient execution of the Society’s strategy in these areas. The appointed person will create the connections, systems and opportunities to enable the Society to deliver the highest standards of performance, operational excellence, and customer experience.

THE PERSON

With a strong background in leading complex operations in a services-based environment, the ideal candidate for this position will have a proven ability to deliver significant growth and change. They will demonstrate a collaborative approach to leadership based on exemplary strategic planning, organisational and interpersonal skills. Possessing a relevant degree or other professional qualification and leadership experience, the successful candidate will have an adaptable and flexible working style and will be passionate about the Society’s purpose.
