THE ORGANISATION:

Muscular Dystrophy Ireland (MDI) is a voluntary organisation which was established in 1972 by a small group of people in the west of Ireland to support families who had a member with muscular dystrophy. Since then it has grown considerably and it now has a membership of over 750 members and a network of support staff throughout Ireland.

MDI’s primary objective is to provide support for people and their families who are living with muscular dystrophy and allied neuromuscular conditions. It supports advocating for services to enable people with neuromuscular conditions to fully participate in society and to live a life of their own choosing. MDI also aims to support and fund research into neuromuscular conditions.

The board of MDI now wishes to appoint a highly effective Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation into its next stage of development.

THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Chairperson, the Chief Executive Officer will take responsibility for the strategic and operational management of the organisation. This is a hands-on role leading a small team of dedicated staff where driving decisions and empowering people at all levels will be required.

THE PERSON:

  • The successful candidate will have the necessary skills required to lead and grow an innovative national not-for-profit organisation.
  • As the ambassador for MDI, you will have highly developed communication skills and will be capable of engaging with and influencing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership, governance, finance and change management skills are required.
  • You will possess significant experience in developing, driving and delivering strategic plans.
  • You will have an ability to attract and manage funding from diverse sources.
  • Personal values that resonate with the mission and work of MDI are essential.
