THE ORGANISATION

The Charities Regulator is the independent statutory body responsible for registering and regulating charities operating in Ireland. Established in 2014, it works to increase public trust and confidence in the governance and management of charities, operating under the aegis of the Department of Rural and Community Development. Its key functions include maintaining a public register of charities and ensuring compliance with the Charities Acts. There are over 11,500 charities registered in Ireland, covering a wide range of purposes including the alleviation of poverty, provision of education, advancement of the arts and the protection of the environment. THE ROLE

Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive will provide vision, strategic leadership and effective management across all functions of the Charities Regulator to ensure that it furthers its mission of regulating the charity sector in the public interest, as set out in the organisation's legislative functions. The Chief Executive will work closely with the Board of the Charities Regulator and will lead the Executive Team to deliver on the organisation’s key functions. The appointed person will develop productive relationships at all levels and will promote the work of the Charities Regulator to all relevant stakeholders and will act as the public face of the organisation.


THE PERSON

This position requires an inspirational leader with an outstanding track record of achievement within a relevant organisation. The appointed person will have the capacity and commitment to build on the Charities Regulator’s achievements to date and will oversee the continued development and implementation of the organisation’s strategy through a dynamic working relationship with the Board, the Executive Team, and all other relevant stakeholders. The successful candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges pertaining to the regulatory aspects of the charities sector.  Possessing a relevant degree or other professional qualification, the appointed candidate will have exceptional stakeholder management abilities in addition to exemplary interpersonal and communication skills.
