THE ORGANISATION
HEAnet is Ireland’s National Research and Education Network (NREN) and is an essential provider of ICT (Information and Communications Technology) services to the education and research community in Ireland. HEAnet operates a nationwide high-speed broadband network that connects approximately 1,000,000 students, researchers and staff across first, second, further and higher level education. HEAnet connects Irish learners and researchers to the internet, to online educational resources, and to fellow national education and research networks in Europe, the USA and the rest of the world.
HEAnet is accountable to its members, funders, clients and other stakeholders for the provision of best-in-class ICT shared services to support the realisation of Ireland’s education and research goals.
The Board of Directors of HEAnet is seeking to appoint an individual with the necessary blend of skills and experience as an independent Chairperson to provide committed leadership to the Board and Chief Executive. The Chairperson will act as a driving force for HEAnet’s vision of enabling Ireland’s digital ambition and deliver on the Company’s mission of “creating common, repeatable and shareable solutions for Education and Research in Ireland”.
THE ROLE
The Chairperson is responsible for leadership of the HEAnet Board and ensuring its effectiveness on all aspects of its role. The Chairperson should display high standards of integrity and probity and set expectations regarding culture, corporate governance, values, and behaviours for the organisation and for the tone of discussions at Board level.
THE PERSON
The Chairperson of HEAnet will have a national or international reputation for leadership in their respective field of work, with an ability to lead organisational improvement and rapidly develop a deep understanding of HEAnet and its provision of shared services to the education and research community in Ireland. The Chairperson will possess previous non-executive experience in a similar environment with the strategic skills and commercial acumen necessary to ensure excellent governance and board performance.
Appointment to the Board will be for an initial period of four years with an option to extend the term of engagement for a second term of four years.
